At Williams Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we provide a selection of services for general, cosmetic, and restorative care. When patients are faced with tooth loss, they may be overwhelmed by their condition. They may feel self-conscious about how they look when they smile or talk, which can reduce confidence and self-esteem. Additionally, teeth are needed to properly chew and break down food for proper digestion. Dr. Trevor Williams and his associates in Brandon, Florida can help patients decide if they are a good fit for removable partials or a set of full dentures.

Types of dentures

Dr. Trevor Williams offers two varieties of dentures to patients:

  • Full dentures – complete or “full” dentures are appliances used to replace all of the natural teeth in the upper or lower arches. They are fabricated from acrylic and are made to look as natural as possible. They can be held in place in the mouth using dental adhesives, natural suction, or dental implants.
  • Partial dentures – partial dentures are dentures used to replace one or more teeth in the dental arch. These dentures slide into place over the dental arch and use false teeth where needed in the gaps left behind. Partial dentures are easy to remove and adjust as needed, ensuring better fit and oral health.

Which one is right for me?

Most patients want one of the best looking cosmetic dentures if they opt for removable appliances. However, not everyone is a good fit. During a consultation appointment with Dr. Trevor Williams, patients will learn about the two options available. They can also ask questions about other tooth replacement alternatives available in the office, including dental bridges and dental implants. During the first visit, patients can educate themselves on the pros and cons of each and make a knowledgeable decision regarding what is best for their needs.

FAQs

What are the different types of dentures you offer?
  • Full dentures – Replace all natural teeth in the upper or lower arches. They are held in place using dental adhesives, natural suction, or dental implants.
  • Partial dentures – Replace one or more teeth in the dental arch. They slide into place over the dental arch and use false teeth, if necessary, to fill the gaps.
For how long should I wear dentures every day?

For at least eight hours a day, so that your gums and jawbone have time to adjust to the dentures and to prevent the development of sore spots. Remove them at night to give your gums a rest. You should also remove them when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

For how long would I have to continue wearing my dentures?

For as long as you want them. They should last for many years if you take proper care of them. Over time, you may have to reline, rebase, or replace your dentures.

How do I take care of my dentures?

You should remove them at night, clean them gently with a soft brush, and soak them overnight in warm (not hot) water. Rinse your dentures before wearing them in the morning.

What will happen if I stop wearing dentures?

Your gums and bones will shrink and change shape over time, and you will find it difficult and even impossible to wear your dentures again. Your facial muscles will also be affected.
